Growing strong communities requires collaboration—both among residents and with those beyond their neighborhoods. As a family man in Newton County, Matt Walsh is thrilled to be part of the new connections sprouting in his hometown and making it stronger than ever.
For Matt, building a strong community starts by engaging with its residents. When he’s not restoring old farm equipment or dining at SP19 with his wife, you’ll find him looking for ways to strengthen local connections by checking in with his neighbors.
“True Value in Roselawn is great,” said Matt. “The people there are wonderful and do a lot for the community. I enjoy not only picking up the things I need there, but also visiting with everyone while I’m in the store.”

Handshakes and Hoosier hospitality are Matt’s way of learning the needs of the counties so he can get to work. He bridges the gap between needs and solutions by volunteering with local organizations to give back to and build up the county he loves.
“I wanted to give back to my community and thought this was a great way to help do that,” Matt said about volunteering at JNF. “I’m also on the Lake Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Newton County Farm Bureau board, to help promote agriculture initiatives in Newton County. It’s an honor to see the things that we help with come to fruition.”
Matt takes pride in what Jasper and Newton County communities have achieved together, but continues to aim higher by building connections beyond their borders.
“I’m excited about the opportunities we have to grow our communities through advancements in technology,” Matt said. “The world is smaller than ever, and having the ability to work from anywhere in the world, I think, is a great plus for our communities to grow and thrive.”

Of course, it all starts at home, where Matt encourages everyone to take advantage of these new opportunities to build more connections and continue growing Jasper & Newton Counties.
“With so many opportunities available within our community that didn’t exist even 1 or 2 years ago, I think it’s a great time to invest in our growth,” said Matt. “We’re just at the beginning of an exponential growth curve with new ideas, business, and connections, and it’s just such an exciting time to be involved with your local community.”
