We’re sure by now, many of you have heard of STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
As stated in an article from the University of San Diego, STEAM aims to spark an interest and lifelong love of the arts and sciences in children from an early age. Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) are similar disciplines in that all involve creative processes and none uses just one method for inquiry and investigation.
Teaching relevant, in-demand skills that will prepare students to become innovators in an ever-evolving world is paramount, not only for the future of these students but for the future of the country.
Here at JCPL, we also recognize the need for STEAM interaction among our youngest patrons and are excited to be offering STEAM kits to be checked out and enjoyed at home. Each of our three libraries have six kits that patrons will be able to borrow for one week, including:
- Marble Run
- Dash Robot
- Code and Go Robot Mouse
- Firstscope Telescope
- Snap Circuits
- Mindware Imagination Magnets
The purchase of these kits would not be possible without the generous support of the Jasper Newton Foundation Inc. who granted us the funds to purchase the kits, as well as clear backpacks in which the kits will be stored, displayed, and transported.
STEAM kits are just another way that we inform, enrich, and empower our diverse community!
