Fun For Everyone!
When the Town of Remington decided to update and expand its Community Park, one little word would make a tremendous difference: all.
Town of Remington Manager Jonathan Cripe, President of the Remington Park Department Darcy Allegrini, and the park expansion committee made a plan to create a playground that would include children of all abilities. A playspace that is accessible for children who have disabilities and challenges will be the first of its kind in Jasper and Newton Counties. Currently, most local families have to drive more than two hours to enjoy an inclusive playground.
But what makes a playground “inclusive”? Specific design features make it possible for children with certain physical disabilities, including mobility issues and vision challenges, to use a space and its equipment more safely and easily. The new playground at Remington Community Park will have a rubber base, which is more stable than traditional rubber pellets or mulch, and is easier to navigate for a person who uses a wheelchair or crutches. There will be more space between equipment to accommodate vision limitations, and access routes will be wider. The playground will also include a universal, ground-level carousel, an ADA cliffrider with slide, an inclusive twister, specialized swings, an expanded music play space, and shaded areas for children and caregivers. The Town of Remington is working with HWC Engineering to ensure that the playground is designed and built to be safe, accessible, and engaging for all who use it.
An expanded, inclusive playground offers children the chance to play in a fun outdoor space, and it also creates social opportunities. Kids can interact and enjoy time with peers of varying physical, sensory, and cognitive abilities. Adults benefit, too. At the playground, parents and caregivers can connect with each other, reducing the feelings of isolation that families often experience when they are caring for family members who have disabilities.
The list of physical, mental, social, and emotional benefits of an expanded, inclusive park space is long, but let’s not forget to say simply that playgrounds are fun! An excellent playground makes a community a more attractive place to visit and to live, especially for young families.
In August 2025, the park expansion project met its goal to raise $1 million in donations. These gifts came from community members, local businesses, and area organizations, including the Jasper County Tourism Commission.
The project has also received a $100,000 Driving Home Grant from Jasper Newton Foundation. This award reflects the significant impact the project is expected to have on Remington and its surrounding communities. The expansion of Remington Community Park addresses many Driving Home objectives, across all four lanes.

Remington has always had a strong sense of community, and the leaders of the park expansion project believe that investing in this shared asset will only deepen the spirit of cooperation that already exists and will amplify the message that all are welcome.
“We want the Town of Remington to continue to grow and be known as a place where no one is left out,” Town Manager Jonathan Cripe said about the park expansion. “Remington is fun for everyone.”
