A healthy community is a thriving community, and Kim Denton is here to help all the Hoosiers of our counties be at their best.

Starting as a case manager in 2006 in the Tri-County Schools—and a team leader for all schools in Newton and Jasper Counties— Kim knew the importance of mental health for all ages as she entered her time at Valley Oaks Health.

I developed the child advocacy team shortly after my hire,” said Kim. “From there, I began grad school to obtain my master’s degree in social work, which led to my hiring as a therapist in 2019 and my promotion to the Rensselaer branch director in 2023.”

Of course, the role comes with many challenges, but Kim continues to face them head-on to ensure her community gets the help it needs.

I’m currently managing two offices, which come with daily challenges like hiring and retaining staff, budget obstacles, and service demand. However, it has been a good year, and things are falling into place.

Thanks to her and her team’s efforts, the community’s future is looking healthy, but it can still use your support.

“We are adding medical services soon to our Rensselaer location,” said Kim. “But mental health is still prevalent, with 1 in 4 people experiencing a mental health diagnosis at some point in their life. Mental health spending in the US is equivalent to 1.7% of GDP annually.”

Thank you for being a driving force in the mental health of our community, Kim.
