Meet Tammy Wisley, President of the Psi Iota Xi Eta Nu chapter in the Q&A below. Psi Iota Xi is a national philanthropic sorority working to support the cultural needs of the communities they serve.
How did you get involved in the nonprofit sector?
“I became involved in community service because I am passionate about supporting the community that I live and work in and making a difference in the lives of others.”
How long have you been with Psi Iota Xi?
“I have been with Psi Iota Xi since Aug 2008 and have held every officer position. My current position is the Chapter President.”
What services do you offer?
“Psi Iota Xi is a National Philanthropic sorority focusing on art, literature, music, and speech & hearing. Our focus is to improve our communities through our service. Our local chapter, Eta Nu, has supported our community for over fifty years.
Each year, we provide scholarships for high school seniors, scholarships for summer speech and hearing sessions, hearing aid batteries to children, support our local theater groups Fendig Children’s Theater and Carnegie Players, support art supplies and books at all the schools, support our bands and choirs, support local art programs through the Prairie Arts Center, and local literacy programs through our libraries.”
Where could your organization use some support from the community?
“We support our projects through our fundraisers, the largest of which is the cookies at the fair. With the community’s continued support of our fundraisers, we can continue to provide the funding to support our local projects and even consider additional projects.”
Why is it vital for you to serve the community by being part of this organization?
“It is important because this is where I live and raised my children. As a Psi Iota XI, I have been able to give back to and support the community through our fundraisers and volunteer work. One of my favorite things about our community is the opportunities for support available through many organizations and for various needs. This passionate community will support our teams, organizations, and people. I serve in several organizations and understand the importance of community support. These values are what make our community different and what we can use to grow and meet all of the community’s needs.”
If you could see one thing improve in our community – what would it be?
“I would like to see people support more local non-profits and businesses that make our community a unique place to live. I would also like the community to be more aware of the needs of the people to prevent injustice within our community.”
