We Love Where We Live
Jasper Newton Foundation
The Jasper Newton Foundation is invested in the well-being and continued health and happiness of our community. We are taking safety precautions to ensure that as we operate during this time we keep those goals at the forefront of our mission. We are striving to adapt to situations as they arise and are staying informed on the developing COVID-19 situation in our area.
To give you more time and resources and support in the decision to protect your good health we are postponing the Jasper Newton County Community Fund April grant cycle until June 1. This means that Grant applications will now be due June 1 to the foundation’s office. As with all things, this timeline will be evaluated as needed as we all gently navigate this pandemic together.
Community Funds have also been set aside for emergency needs in our two counties. We are working to develop a list of organizations that can apply for these funds as well as an emergency grant application process that will result in money being awarded much faster than our non-emergency operating procedures.
To help stop the spread of COVID-19, we are also closing The Carnegie Center to the public until further notice.
Our office staff will be working from home during the Shelter in Place directive from the Governor. We are still working and are still here to help and support you! You can call us at (219) 866-5899 and leave a message or email us:
In addition, any current meeting room rentals are canceled. We are not booking any new events. This closure includes the Lillian Fendig Gallery upstairs. The Prairie Arts Council can be reached at 219-866-5278 or by email.
We are also collecting a local listing of community help in both counties that we will share with as many people as we can. This information will be listed a future email or emails.
We love where we live and are here beside you as we navigate these changing times. Keep reading to learn how you can make a difference in your community.
What we are doing and how you can help:
The Jasper Newton Foundation Governing Board has set aside $50,000 in each county for emergency funding for our local nonprofits on the front lines of this pandemic. If your nonprofit needs some emergency help to continue helping others – call 219-866-5899 and talk to Brienne. We are here for you.
The foundation is also helping to fund backpack programs in both counties, helping local food pantries serving the communities, and are in contact with Franciscan Health Rensselaer to stay ahead of hospital needs including employee assistance funds.
Giving to the Jasper County Fund or the Newton County Fund will help families in your county with resources. DONATE to the Community Fund in your county! We are sending out money to help RIGHT NOW – we need your help!

What else you can do:
You can also help reduce the spread of germs by reducing the number of places you go in public, washing your hands for 20 seconds often, and checking on your elderly neighbors – they may need groceries and might be afraid to go out.
How to Help an Elderly Neighbor
Print off this sheet, fill it out – and stick it on your neighbor’s door – so they know who they can call for help.
